ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE... SOME OF US ARE JUST BETTER PLAYERS. Cinema Viscera and Incognita Enterprises are proud to present the short comedy picture, "WHY MUST THE SHOW GO ON?"! A documentary crew detail the struggle of Unbelievable Productions' visionary leader, Madeleine LaRoy (Sally McLean - THE ELEPHANT PRINCESS, LOWDOWN),, to stage a revolutionary reboot of Shakespeare's MACBETH (A SPACE ODYSSEY), with the help of her faithful best friend/choreographer/costume & set designer/tea lady/everything else, Deirdre Snowflake Fleckman (Perri Cummings - NEIGHBOURS, BLUE HEELERS). To round out her artistic endeavours, Madeleine enlists young drama school graduate Scott Johnson (Nathan Strauss - RACVs Jason) and alcoholic veteran of the stage Desmond Darke (Paul Dawber - BASTARD BOYS, SATISFACTION, NEIGHBOURS) to help her mount her astounding vision. Despite Madeleine's outrageous and sometimes downright ludicrous direction, Desmond's frequent drunken binges both on and off stage, Scott's complete bewilderment and confusion about what he's supposed to do and Deirdre's over-the-top costume and set design that threatens to outshine the cast in it's 'creativity', the old theatre adage of 'The Show Must Go On' becomes their mantra - even when it becomes glaringly obvious that maybe it's a good thing if it doesn't. A mockumentary in the tradition of 'This is Spinal Tap' and 'The Office' - Why Must The Show Go On? is a gritty, no-holds-barred look at life in front of the footlights ... in a ll it's painful glory. |
